Information

Kasumi combination whetstone #600/#1000: coarse and fine side in one stone

A dull knife is both tiresome and more dangerous to use than a sharp one. The Kasumi combination whetstone has two sides in one stone. The coarse 600 grit side removes small nicks and sets a new edge, and the fine 1000 grit side makes the edge smooth and sharp. It is all you need to keep your knives in shape.

600 and 1000 grit
Two sides in one stone
For all types of knives
Made in Seki, Japan

This is a ceramic water stone that needs to soak before use. The water lubricates and cools, and together with dust from the stone it forms a sharpening paste on the surface that gives a good result. The stone is soft enough to give good feedback, so it is easier to feel the angle. That makes it good for beginners, and it works just as well on European knives as on hard Japanese ones.

Pro tip!
Draw over the whole surface of the stone with a marker before you start. When the line is worn away evenly, you know you are holding a steady angle and using the whole stone.

FAQ Frequently asked questions

How long should the stone soak?

10 to 15 minutes, until no more bubbles come from the stone.

Which side should I start on?

Is the stone suitable for Japanese knives?

Yes. It works on both European and hard Japanese knives.

How do I look after the stone?

Rinse it in clean water after use and let it air dry completely. Do not expose a wet stone to frost or strong heat, as it may crack.
