Primo Ceramic Firebox for Round Kamado: A New Heart for the Grill
The firebox is the very heart of a kamado: the ceramic chamber that holds the charcoal, withstands the extreme heat of the embers and directs the airflow from the bottom vent up through the burn chamber. This original spare part from Primo is cast in one piece of ceramic for the round Kamado model, and gives the grill back proper draft, efficient heat retention and stable temperature once the old firebox has broken.

The ceramics in the firebox work harder than any other part of the grill: they sit against the embers session after session and swing between freezing winter air and several hundred degrees. Fine hairline marks in the surface are therefore completely normal, but when the box cracks right through or loses pieces, the airflow is disturbed, the charcoal burns unevenly and the temperature becomes hard to control. Then a one-piece original firebox is the answer: it is lowered straight down into the base without tools, fits like it was cast in place and makes a well-kept Primo ready for many new seasons.
Take the first firing with the new firebox gently: build the temperature up gradually instead of going straight to full heat. The ceramics then settle evenly without stress, and you lay the foundation for many years of service.

How to use
- Let the grill cool down completely, and remove grates, charcoal and old ash.
- Lift the old firebox carefully out of the grill.
- Clean the bottom of the grill of ash and debris.
- Lower the new firebox straight down and check that it sits level against the ceramic base before the charcoal grate goes back in.

My firebox has cracks, does it need replacing?
Not necessarily. Fine hairline marks in the surface are normal for ceramics that swing between cold and glowing hot, and do not affect function. Replace it when the box has cracked right through, loses pieces or no longer sits steady, as that disturbs the draft and temperature control.
Does the firebox fit my grill?
This firebox is made for Primo's round Kamado model. The Oval range uses its own fireboxes in other shapes and sizes, so check the model name on your grill before ordering.
Is the charcoal grate included?
No, this is the ceramic firebox itself. The cast iron charcoal grate is a separate part, and if your old grate is still intact, you keep using it in the new box.
Is the swap difficult?
No, it needs no tools: empty the grill, lift out the old box and lower the new one straight down into the base. The main thing is to lift carefully, ceramics handle heat better than knocks, and to check that the box sits level before you light up.
