Information
Masahiro MC-80 Bunka - 16.5 cm
"The cult classic with the pointed tip."
The Bunka is the "rockstar" among Japanese knives. Similar to a Santoku, it is distinguished by its flat profile and the aggressive, pointed tip (often called "K-Tip" or "Reverse Tanto"). Masahiro MC-80 Bunka not only gives you an incredibly cool look, but the pointed tip makes it effortlessly easy to access tight spots, trim meat, or finely mince shallots with extreme precision.
Perfect for:
- ✅ Detail work: Use the pointed tip to score garlic or trim sinew.
- ✅ Vegetables: The flat edge is perfect for "push-cutting" all greens.
- ✅ Precision: More agile than a chef's knife, sharper than most.
🎓 Fun Fact: What does "Bunka" mean?
Bunka Bocho (文化包丁) means "Cultural Knife". It was developed as Japan opened up to the West (Meiji period) and was designed to handle both traditional Japanese food and "new" Western cuisine. It is actually the predecessor to the more famous Santoku knife.
🥪 San Mai Construction
This is the real deal: A core of hard carbon steel that takes an extreme edge, protected by two layers of softer stainless steel. You get the performance of carbon steel without the entire blade rusting.
🚫 Important Care Instructions
The edge itself is carbon steel and must be treated with respect. Wash by hand and dry immediately. If left wet, the edge will rust. Never in the dishwasher!
Masahiro MC-80 Bunka is the choice for those who want something a bit more unique than their neighbor, and who love precision.
