Is this exactly the same as celery salt?

No. Celery salt is usually a mixture of salt and celery seeds. This is a completely pure powder of celery seeds, so you get enormously more flavor and can control the salt amount entirely on your own.

Does it make the food taste bitter?

Celery seeds can impart a slight bitterness if you use too much of it. In the right and well balanced amounts, however, this bitterness provides a fantastic contrast against fatty and sweet flavors, for example together with mayonnaise in a coleslaw.

Can I use this instead of fresh celery stalks?
