Many believe that when a knife stops slicing tomatoes effortlessly, it needs stone grinding. Often, that's wrong - it just needs a touch-up on a honing rod. Japanese knives feature such hard steel that regular steel rods often glide right off. That is why a ceramic honing rod is essential. It is harder than the knife steel and has a fine grit that realigns and polishes the edge, making it feel new again in seconds.

  • Japanese knives: Ideal for hard steel (HRC 58-64).
  • Daily maintenance: 4-5 strokes on each side before use keep the knife sharp for months.
  • Polishing: Provides a finer and smoother edge than diamond rods.

💎 Why Ceramic?

Steel on steel works poorly when the knife is as hard as the rod. Ceramic is an extremely hard material that actually "bites" into Japanese steel. This rod corresponds to approx. #1000-#1200 grit, meaning it sharpens very gently without eating away your knife.

📐 How to use it

Hold the rod vertically with the tip on a cutting board (for safety). Guide the knife calmly down the rod at an angle of approx. 10-15 degrees. Repeat 4-5 times on each side. Use very little pressure - let the ceramic do the work.

⚠️ Important Warning

Ceramic is hard, but fragile. If you drop this rod on a tiled floor, it will shatter. Store it safely and handle with care.
