Refrigerator and Freezer Thermometer Browin: Know Your Food Is Stored Right

Your fridge's own display tells you what the thermostat thinks, this thermometer tells you what the temperature actually is where the food sits. The liquid thermometer from Browin (BIOTERM) measures from -50 to +40 °C with ±1 °C accuracy, covering the freezer, the fridge and cold rooms. If you store game meat, cure sausages or vacuum pack your catch, correct storage temperature is the difference between safe food and wasted work.

Measures -50 to +40 °C, ±1 °C
Mercury-free measuring liquid
Colour-coded scale, easy to read
Hook for hanging between shelves

The scale is colour coded so you see the status at a glance: green for correct food storage temperatures, blue for freezing and red for temperatures where food takes harm. The glass capillary is protected by rounded plastic plugs at both ends, and the hook at the top lets the thermometer hang between fridge shelves or in the freezer basket. At 17 cm and just 20 grams it takes no space, needs no batteries and no calibration, it simply works, year after year.

Pro tip for food storage!
The temperature varies more inside a fridge than most people think: coldest at the bottom against the back wall, warmest in the door and at the top. Move the thermometer around and measure on several shelves, and keep what you care most about, fresh meat, fish and curing sausages, where it is actually coldest.

Features

  • Wide range: From -50 to +40 °C with ±1 °C accuracy, covers freezer, fridge and cold rooms.
  • Safe and maintenance free: Mercury-free liquid, a protected glass capillary and no batteries to run out.
  • Easy to read: Colour-coded scale that shows at a glance whether the temperature is right, with a hanging hook.

How to use

  1. Hang or place the thermometer in the middle of the fridge or freezer, not right against walls or the door.
  2. Wait at least an hour before reading, liquid thermometers need time to stabilise.
  3. Read with the door barely open, and adjust the thermostat until you are in the green zone.

FAQ Frequently asked questions

What temperature should the fridge and freezer keep?

The fridge should keep 4 °C or colder, which is what food safety authorities recommend for fresh produce. The freezer should keep -18 °C or colder. Every degree above 4 °C in the fridge shortens the shelf life of meat, fish and dairy noticeably, so it pays to check.

Why does the thermometer show something different from the fridge display?

The display shows the temperature at the fridge's own sensor, which sits at one specific point, often near the cooling element. The thermometer shows the temperature where you actually place it, which is where the food sits. A couple of degrees of difference between the display and the shelves is completely normal, and exactly why a separate thermometer is useful.

Is a liquid thermometer better than a digital one?

They each have their strength. The liquid thermometer never needs batteries, handles moisture and cold for years and cannot fail electronically, which is why it is the classic choice in fridges and freezers. Digital thermometers can log and alarm, but stop working when the battery dies, often without you noticing. For permanent monitoring of storage temperature, the simple liquid thermometer is hard to beat.
