At 9 cm, the Masahiro MV Paring Knife is designed for tasks requiring maximum control, like peeling apples "in the air" or cleaning mushrooms. But this knife has an ace up its sleeve: It is a fantastic steak knife. While regular steak knives have serrated edges that tear the meat fibers, this razor-sharp edge glides straight through the steak like butter, preserving the juiciness on the plate.

🥩 Why a straight edge for steak?

Traditional steak knives are serrated because the steel is poor and needs to "saw" through. Masahiro steel (MBS-26) is so hard and sharp that you get a clean cut without squeezing out the meat juices. It actually tastes better!

Even on this small knife, Masahiro uses their best steel. This means it stays sharp for an extremely long time, even if you use it against porcelain plates (but be gentle, as porcelain is hard!).
