What is the difference between regular paprika and Paprika Rosen?
It is easy to think that all paprika powder is the same, but there is actually a big difference in how the various types are produced and how they taste in the kitchen.
- ✔ Regular paprika powder (Sweet paprika / Edelsüss):
This is the mild variant most people know from the grocery store. When this is produced, all seeds and internal membranes (placentas) are removed before the pepper is dried and ground. The result is a spice that is round, sweet, and fruity in taste. Since it consists exclusively of the bright red fruit pulp, it gives a very intense red color to the food. - ✔ Paprika Rosen (Rose paprika):
When making Paprika Rosen, the fruit pulp is ground together with a proportion of the seeds and the internal membranes. It is precisely in the seeds and membranes that the pepper's natural heat (capsaicin) is located! This gives Paprika Rosen a more distinct, piquant, and peppery taste compared to the regular, sweet variant. The color may also appear slightly lighter because the light seeds are ground into the powder.
In short: Use regular paprika powder when you exclusively want color and a mild, fruity sweetness. Choose Paprika Rosen when you want the authentic paprika taste, but with a deeper character and a slightly more spicy kick!
In addition to the great taste, Paprika Rosen is often used as a natural food coloring in cooking. The color is approximately 80 ASTA, which gives a beautiful and appetizing glow to everything from marinades and poultry to seafood and homemade mayonnaise. This is a completely pure natural product that is neither irradiated nor contains any genetically modified ingredients (GMO).
Tips from the Chef
The color and taste in the paprika powder is actually slightly sensitive to direct light, air, and strong heat. To best preserve the deep color and good taste in hot dishes, it is recommended to add the paprika powder right at the end of the cooking process. Also remember to store the spice in a dark and dry place in your cupboard!

FAQ
Is this paprika powder spicy?
Paprika Rosen has a sharp and characteristic paprika flavor, but it is not a burning hot chili powder. It provides depth, aroma, and an incredibly beautiful color to your food.
Why does my paprika powder become pale over time?
The coloring agents in paprika are naturally sensitive to light and air. If the jar or bag is left in a bright place, the powder will lose its fine reddish brown color and become lighter. Therefore, always make sure to store it in a dark cupboard.
