Information

Outdoor Edge JaegerPair: skinning knife and gut hook knife in one sheath

Outdoor Edge JaegerPair is a knife set for hunters who want the two most important knives for field dressing game in one place. The set consists of a drop point skinning knife and a gutting knife with a gut hook, both in 420J2 stainless steel with full tang. The knives sit in one nylon belt sheath, so you have both at hand when the animal is down.

Skinner and gut hook	420J2 stainless steel
Full tang	Nylon belt sheath

The gutting knife has a hook that opens the hide and belly wall without the blade going into the entrails. That gives a clean cut and less risk of puncturing the gut or stomach. The skinning knife has a curved drop point blade suited for skinning and rough butchering. The handles are rubberized TPR with an antler texture, and the blaze orange colour makes the knives easy to find in heather and snow.

Pro tip!
Use the gut hook for the opening itself and the skinning knife for the rest of the job. The skinning knife stays sharp longer, and you avoid changing grip in the middle of the opening. Rinse and dry both knives after use, before they go back in the sheath.

Features

Two knives in one set: Drop point skinning knife and gutting knife with gut hook.
Stainless steel: 420J2 steel, heat treated and hand polished, easy to keep sharp.
Full tang: The steel runs all the way through the handle, for a strong and balanced blade.
Secure grip: Rubberized TPR handle with antler texture that sits securely in the hand.
High visibility: Blaze orange handles that are easy to spot in the field.
Shared sheath: Nylon belt sheath with room for both knives.

How to use

Place the animal on its back, and make a short cut in the hide with the skinning knife.
Insert the hook of the gutting knife into the cut with the edge facing up, and pull it along the belly.
Use the skinning knife to free the entrails, skin and butcher.
Clean the knives in warm water after use, and dry them well.
Sharpen or hone the edges as needed, and store the knives dry in the sheath.

FAQ Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the skinning knife and the gutting knife?

The skinning knife has a curved drop point blade for skinning and butchering. The gutting knife has a hook that opens the hide and belly wall without damaging the entrails, so the opening is clean and safe.

Are the knives suited for moose and deer?

Yes. The set is made for field dressing game, and the blade lengths of around 10 cm suit opening, skinning and rough butchering of both small and large game.

Are the knives stainless?

Yes. Both knives are 420J2 stainless steel. Still, rinse and dry them after use, especially after contact with blood and salt water.

Can the knives go in the dishwasher?

We recommend washing by hand in warm water. The dishwasher wears on the edge and the handle.
